Since its inception in 1994, Time Warp has continually cemented itself as one of the most iconic techno festivals in the world. Held annually in Mannheim, Germany, it has long been synonymous with cutting-edge electronic music, unparalleled production values, and unforgettable performances from the world’s best artists.
As Time Warp continues to set the standard for techno festivals globally, celebrating its 30th anniversary since its inception and ahead of its return to Mannheim for the Two Days | Two Celebrations special on October 25th & 26, 2024, we look back at some key highlights down the years.
Sven Väth
Sven Väth’s 2013 set at Time Warp Mannheim is celebrated for its deep, immersive techno. Väth delivered a set that spanned a wide range of techno sub-genres, from deep and melodic, to driving and intense. His ability to build and sustain energy throughout the performance showcased his mastery of the craft and the atmosphere in the arena was electric. This year he is back for a special 60th birthday celebration.
Compact Time Warp
The “compact” edition of Time Warp began in 2021 in response to the COVID pandemic which changed the dance music landscape. It was such a well-received event in its distilled form that it has become an annual fall tradition that boasts two days and two stages but no less musical excellence.
Time Warp XXL
Another defining moment came in 2012 when Time Warp introduced its first-ever “Time Warp XXL” concept. This ambitious project aimed to push the boundaries of festival production with an elaborate stage design and visual effects that set a new benchmark. The stunning visuals and immersive experience created a surreal atmosphere and elevated the already leading festival to new heights.
Diversity
Time Warp has always been at the forefront musically as well as with production. Its line ups have never just been the same each year and it has never played it safe. Instead it has always been quick to set trends from across the techno spectrum and has always championed women in the scene. Charlotte De Witte and Amelie Lens are fine examples of artists who have long been a part of the family.
The 25th Anniversary
For this special milestone the team decided to return to NYC after a four year hiatus. The epic US event was set in the perfect industrial setting of the New York Expo centre with, as you would expect, great production and sound and a line-up including Amelie Lens, Pan-Pot, Enzo Siragusa, Mind Against, Renier Zonneveld and many more.
