A New Multi-Day Festival Is Coming To Woodstock’s Original Site This August

Published at

A new multi-day festival is reportedly coming to the site of the original Woodstock sometime in August of 2023.

The CEO of Bethel Woods Center for the Arts—the outdoor amphitheater at the Woodstock site— said, “In a few weeks, hopefully we will be announcing a new multi-day festival in August where the main stage will be on the original ’69 field, which has not been the case for decades, so we’re very excited.”

In the 54 years since the legendary festival, there have been many attempts to recreate the magic including anniversary events and concerts.

In 1999, one of the original founders Michael Lang hosted Woodstock ’99, which became infamous for how terribly it was organized.

The show was a disaster with limited food and water, unsafe crowding and conditions, and eventually fires, explosions, and a riot.

Netflix came out with a documentary on Woodstock ’99 that was widely viewed by the festival community.

Live Nation and Michael Lang also attempted to host a three-day Woodstock 50th Anniversary Event in 2019, which was moved to one day after Miley Cyrus pulled out of the headlining slot, and then eventually canceled.

No lineup or dates have yet been announced for the concert in 2023 and it is unclear if the festival will be hosted by any of the co-founders of Woodstock or if it will be a Woodstock Anniversary event.
